Who Owns the Data?

Donnerstag, 05.12.2024, 15:00 Uhr

Recent discussions regarding the reproducibility and efficiency of science have instigated institutions, funders, and publishers to promote or demand more transparency, open data, data sharing and data re-use. As such practices open up questions regarding data ownership, usage rights and responsibilities, the Swiss Reproducibility Network in Bern is organizing a panel discussion, where legal experts and researchers will discuss issues around production and ownership of research data in basic science.

Program:

15:00 Welcome note
15:10 Discussion 1: Conflicts over data ownership: who owns the data and who can use them?
16:00 Coffee break
16:15 Discussion 2: Data sharing, open data, and what happens if something goes wrong?
17:20 Closing remarks
17:30 Apero

Who is it for?

Researchers in academia doing basic science who are producing data and want to learn more about usage and ownership rights of research data. (The focus will be on research data in basic science – i.e. sensible, personal or patient related data and data linked to commercial exploitation will not be covered.)

There is no registration fee, however registration is required.
