Promotion of early career researchers and equal opportunities

The Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Bern is actively committed to promoting young researchers and ensuring equal opportunities for students, lecturers, researchers, and staff. We are continuously working to create an attractive academic environment that supports young professionals, encourages diversity and gender balance, reduces barriers to entry, and fosters the compatibility of studies or careers with care responsibilities.

KANG - Commission for Young Academics and Equality

The body responsible for promoting young academics and equality within the Vetsuisse Faculty is KANG – the faculty's "Commission for Young Academics and Equality."

Mission and Goals

KANG is dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities for all members of the faculty and supports the faculty units in creating attractive and family-friendly working conditions to better support young scientists. It fosters a readiness for change, promotes transparency, and contributes to adapting working conditions to societal needs. Additionally, it collaborates with other committees to promote young academics within the faculty.

To ensure the sustainable implementation of these goals, a faculty equality plan was adopted as part of the University of Bern's Action Plan for Equal Opportunities 2021 – 2024. KANG initiates and coordinates the implementation of the Equality Plan 2021 – 2024.

Composition of the Commission

KANG consists of members from all three departments, representatives of the intermediate staff, and a student representative. When forming the commission, attention is paid to maintaining a balanced gender ratio and ensuring that the diversity of the faculty is reflected within the committee.
